Microsoft is preparing for AI PC “year” with the next two Surface devices that are not intended for direct sell to customers. These new gadgets, namely Surface Pro 10 for Business and Surface Laptop 6 for Business are both powered by Intel’s Core Ultra chips, which are the most recent versions on the market. Moreover, they contain Microsoft’s novel Copilot key and a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) meant to enhance existing AI-driven features in Windows 11 as well as those yet to be released. Microsoft designates them as “the first Surface AI PCs created solely for businesses.”

On the outside, these two new Surfaces Pro have not been given a facelift; hence, the look of this device will be almost identical to the Intel version of Surface Pro 9. In addition to another USB-C Thunderbolt 4 port and an optional smart card reader respectively, Surface Laptop 6 for Business has similar screen bezels and general design just like The Surface Laptop 5. Commercial customers should expect shipments from April ninth onwards.

However, this time the company is one of the first to ship Intel’s new Core Ultra processors for Surface devices even though it usually lags behind in adopting the latest Intel chips for Surface devices.

A choice between Core Ultra 5 135U and Core Ultra 7 165U options as well as base spec of 8GB (configurable up to 64GB RAM) are available on Surface Pro 10 for Business. The retail price for the basic requirement will be $1,199 including a Gen4 SSD of 256GB capacity. Microsoft has promised up to nineteen hours of battery life with these new Intel chips. Two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports and a Surface Connect port for charging will come with the Surface Pro 10 Business.

More brightness by up by upto33% have been added to the improved antireflective coating that now covers the small screen on Microsoft’s Business edition of its tablet computer among other gadgets and accessories. False rumors about Microsoft would unveil a Surface Pro 10 with OLED today but instead a LCD display is used in its launch model named: “Surface Pro 10” meant only for business people.

I contacted Microsoft concerning the rumors of a Surface Pro 10 with an OLED screen.

“We are not announcing that product at this time,” Nancie Gaskill, General Manager of Surface business, tells The Verge in an interview. So it sounds like the product is there then I asked her if it was and she replied, “We aren’t corroborating any rumors that are out there at this point, Surface Pro 10 for Business comes with an antireflective display.”

According to sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans, the company will announce a consumer-oriented variant of the Surface Pro 10 featuring an OLED display on May 20th during a hardware and AI event.

Apart from the fact that it has a big display, surface pro 10 for business also comes with an awesome front-facing camera.

It can record videos in 1440p resolution and has a field view of 114 degrees. “This will be the PC market’s first ever wide angle camera,” says Gaskill. Moreover, there is NPU chip inside that allows you to enjoy Windows Studio Effects with background blur and automatic framing during video calls.

Moreover, Microsoft ships NFC reader with the Surface Pro 10 for Business which means businesses can easily use devices like YubiKey NFC security keys for authentication. Also, Microsoft is planning on having a 5G option in its new Surface Pro 10 for Business. “It's our first time bringing Intel on the Surface Pro plus LTE,” Gaskill says explaining about the introduction of 5G in this device. “Although we did bring Qualcomm 5G to our Surface Pro 9 before, but we had previous generation products such as Surface Pro 8 LTE and Surface Pro 7 Plus LTE.”

According to Gaskill, the Surface Laptop 6 for Business has been “redesigned from the inside out.” The Laptop 6 for Business by Microsoft comes with Intel’s Core Ultra H-series chips that are highly efficient and deliver desktop-grade performance. This means that businesses will have a choice between Core Ultra 5 135H and Core Ultra 7 165H as well as RAM options starting at a base $1,199 model having an upgradeable up to 64GB of RAM. Starting from a minimum storage capacity of Gen4 SSD, which is about 256GB, it can go as far as 1TB.

For the first time ever, the larger model has two USB-C Thunderbolt Ports i.e., one normal USB-A, headphone jack and Microsoft’s Surface Connect Port which are also used for charging purposes. On top of these features, the smaller-sized option will have only one USB-C Thunderbolt Port and other regular jacks such as headphones and surface connect ports.

There aren’t any major changes to the Surface Laptop 6 for Business’s display, however, an anti-reflective coating has been included.

Also, it has improved its front-facing camera to a 1080p one but there is no wide angle like the Surface Pro 10 for Business. However, you will be able to have access to Windows studio effects with background blur and automatic framing during video calls.

Ultra H-series processors are claimed by Microsoft to make the Surface Laptop 6 for Business twice as fast as Laptop 5. Furthermore, in certain markets an optional smart card reader is available and Microsoft’s new Copilot key that enables access to the AI-powered Copilot assistant in Windows 11.

Microsoft will sell both these devices exclusively to businesses via its own outlets and licensed resellers, so this is not something a consumer can pick up at Best Buy. However, you can still technically buy them from Microsoft’s online business store or through resellers. “While all our products are exclusive for business, it doesn’t mean that we don’t have products for consumers going forward,” explains Gaskill. “We remain committed to that but we’re announcing these ones specifically built for commercial.”

These two devices are also Gaskill’s’ words “most easily serviceable Surface devices ever.”

Microsoft has put QR codes on the inside parts of both of them and inside markings on Surface Pro 10 for Business to show where screws and drivers go for specific components.

Windows’ many AI features that they’ll add later this year are still things (that) Microsoft isn’t ready to discuss about yet but these new two devices will be ready for them. Microsoft now plans to hold a special Windows and Surface AI event on May 20th with CEO Satya Nadella, who will share the company’s vision about AI in software as well as hardware.
